Graduate Studies

Waterloo’s Department of Sociology and Legal Studies offers both MA and PhD programs in Sociology with highly personalized and flexible instruction. We foster a tradition of collaborative learning and valuable research training.  Distinguished by diverse research opportunities, and rigorous preparation in contemporary and classical theory as well as in qualitative, interpretive, and quantitative methods, our programs also provide an excellent grounding in a range of theoretical orientations.

We currently have 18 faculty members teaching and supervising graduate students, plus over 10 affiliated and adjunct professors from other University of Waterloo departments and colleges. To learn about the research activity in our department, see the faculty research page.
